Over time, silver jewelry and accessories lose their shine and may become black in some cases as a result of exposure to certain conditions and interaction with air (oxidation).
How does silver shine?
One of the following methods can be used
1- A piece of cotton cloth and rub gently.
2- Use sodium bicarbonate powder, which is available in the market and at apothecaries. It is an effervescent substance that is used to polish silver by rubbing the silver to be polished several times using a cloth and immersing the silver in the bicarbonate powder and then rubbing using a small cloth (note: it is not recommended to use this method with Silver, such as rings and necklaces that contain turquoise or coral stones)
3- Use toothpaste and rub gently with a piece of cotton cloth (it is not recommended to use it for jewelry that contains turquoise or coral stones).
Sodium bicarbonate method for cleaning and polishing silver:
1- Put hot water in a deep dish and add salt or sodium bicarbonate to it
2- Immerse the silver to be cleaned in the dish so that the water covers it completely and leave it for 10 minutes.
3- Add small pieces of aluminum foil to the hot water. You will notice that the silver begins to return to its shine due to the chemical reactions that take place.
4- When you notice that the silver has been cleaned, remove it from the solution, rinse it under lukewarm water, then dry it with a soft cloth.
(It is not recommended to use it for jewelry that contains turquoise or coral stones)
Toothpaste method for cleaning and polishing silver:
1- This method is used for antique silverware or those that contain many details, making it easy for dust to stick to them.
2- Use silver polish paste from the pharmacy or replace it with regular ones.
3- Using a sponge or cotton cloth, apply a little paste and pass it over the silver pieces.
4- After that, put a little paste on a soft cloth and rub it in one direction. Avoid circular movements as they may cause scratches to the silver.
5- Run the silver piece under lukewarm water and make sure the paste is completely removed, then dry it with a soft cloth.
(It is not recommended to use it for jewelry that contains turquoise or coral stones)
